SMSF & Superannuation
A self-managed super fund puts you in control of your retirement savings – but with that control comes real responsibility, and a web of rules that changes regularly. We take the complexity off your plate, helping SMSF trustees stay compliant, meet their obligations and make the most of their fund at every stage, from setup to wind-up.
Financials, tax & audit
Each year your SMSF needs a full set of financial statements, an income tax return and an independent audit. We prepare your fund’s accounts and tax return, arrange the annual audit with an approved auditor, and lodge everything with the ATO – accurately and on time, with no last-minute scramble.
Along the way we handle the detail that trips people up: tracking contributions against the caps, accounting for pensions and minimum drawdowns, valuing assets correctly, and applying the right tax treatment to your fund’s income and capital gains. If there’s an issue, we spot it early and help you put it right.
We also keep you informed about changes to the super rules and what they mean for your fund and your retirement plans. It’s expert oversight, without you having to become the expert – so you get the benefits of running your own fund without carrying all the technical risk.
Set up & administration
Thinking about starting an SMSF? We’ll give you honest, upfront advice on whether one is actually right for you – taking into account your balance, your goals and how hands-on you want to be – rather than simply setting one up because you asked.
If an SMSF is the right fit, we’ll establish it correctly from day one, including the trust deed, trustee structure (individual or corporate), ABN and TFN registrations, and the rollover of your existing super. Getting these foundations right avoids problems and delays down the track.
From there, we can handle the ongoing administration – the record-keeping, reporting and year-round compliance – so the paperwork never piles up and your fund stays on track. You stay in control of the investment decisions; we take care of everything behind them.
Borrowing (LRBA set up)
Many trustees use their SMSF to invest in property or other assets with borrowed money, through a limited recourse borrowing arrangement (LRBA). It’s a powerful strategy, but the rules are strict and the structure has to be set up correctly from the outset – mistakes can be expensive and difficult to fix later.
We guide trustees through the whole process, making sure the borrowing, the holding (bare) trust and the fund all fit together and comply with the super and tax rules. We’ll also help you weigh up whether an LRBA is right for your fund before you commit to it.
To bring it all together, we draw on our own network of trusted professionals – SMSF lawyers, property lawyers, mortgage consultants, bankers, lenders and mortgage brokers – so you have the right people around the table and the arrangement is set up properly, from start to finish.
Wind up & rollovers
There comes a time for many funds when winding up is the right move – whether due to retirement, ill health, a relationship change, members moving overseas, or simply a decision to simplify life. Winding up an SMSF properly is just as important as setting it up correctly.
We manage the whole process from start to finish: preparing the final financial statements and tax return, arranging the final audit, calculating and paying out or rolling over member benefits, and dealing with the ATO to formally close the fund.
We make sure every step is done in the right order and nothing is missed, so the fund is wound up cleanly and members’ benefits end up where they should – and you can move on to the next stage with confidence.
